Pink Piggies

By now you probably have heard about Toemageddon.

Basically, the squares think the sky is falling because a mother is lovingly painting her 5 year old son’s toenails pink in a picture in the latest J. Crew catalog. “It’s gender bending!” “It’s blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children!” “It’s psychological sterilization requiring psychotherapy for the boy later in life!” “It’s an attack on masculinity!” This is what some people are saying.

I love me an incidence where the bat crazies on the right make such an absurd and ridiculous hoopla about nothing just for another opportunity to spew their hate that even otherwise conservative, homophobic, and/or transphobic people are like, “seriously??? Get over it!”

It’s so ridiculous it’s not even worth pointing out that colors don’t have genders. Nor does paint. Nor do toenails. And even if painting a male child’s toenails pink did have some sort of gender identity symbolism, this is a problem because….? Anyway, Jon Stewart did a great job mocking the entire situation.

I showed Tyler the video because he loves Jon Stewart and I told him about the Pink Piggies, a group that started on facebook where people of all genders, gender identities, and orientations post photos of their toenails painted pink in protest. After watching the video, I figured Tyler would say “Oh that’s stupid” but be otherwise indifferent. I was somewhat surprised that Tyler was actually bothered by what he saw.

Tyler: Who would get upset about that?

Me: I know. It’s crazy.

Tyler: These people haven’t gotten laid in a long time. They’re insecure about their small dicks. They probably drive Mercedes Benz because… well they’re insecure about their small dicks, and they have to make up all this bullshit so they feel better about their small dicks.

Me: (laughing). Yes, that’s probably true.

Tyler: I’m gonna paint my toenails.

Me: Really?

Tyler: Yes. Absolutely. Let’s do it.

So there you have it. Painting my boyfriend’s huge size 13 feet with pink polish. First time for everything. I’m so proud of him :)

AC/DC boxers, hairy legs, pink toes. That’s a real man!
