Women Pay Me to Dominate Them
I told you I was having a nervous freak out about the prospect of performing in the Vagina Monologues last week. This was because 1) I’ve never been in a play or acted before, 2) I was not able to go to any rehearsals, 3) I only had two weeks to prepare, and 4) the role required me to pretend I’m a prostitute and writhe on the ground faking orgasm in front of a large group of people. Given all these nerve-racking variables, I’d say I did pretty damn fantastic!
Here’s a picture of me with my whip during the famous line, “Women pay me to dominate them…” Another picture of me during the moaning/faking orgasm sequence.

After the play, I sell t-shirts and the vulva pops my mom made to help raise money for local charities that work to end violence against women. I promise that’s what’s happening in this picture! Me in underwear and a line of people with money out- it’s not what it looks like!

The Vagina Monologues is one of those things, like Bohemian Rhapsody and Seinfeld, that I wish I wrote. It has humor, provocativeness, sexual empowerment, powerful testimony of the experiences of women, and awareness about sexual assault. It’s perfect.
Which leads me to my latest endeavor. As I mentioned, I’ve been going sexoholic about going non-profit. But after a bit of research, I’m not sure it’s something I want to do because of the lack of power and control. And yes, while this concerns me as a control freak, it also concerns me because without someone with a vision in control, the organization can easily become messy, beaurocratic, and ineffectual which doesn’t serve anyone well. I’m still deciding how my talents can best serve- profit or non-profit- and while I’m leaning toward profit I’m still mulling it over.
But, of course, something shinier has come along and my sexoholic energy is focused on something else now. Between participating in and tabling at a million Vagina Monologue productions this year and the Vibrator Play that’s playing in Philly right now, that tells the story I tell in my History of the Vibrator workshop, I’m thinking maybe a good way to do sex education that reaches lots of people would be to write, produce, and perform a play! What do you think!?
So like I don’t have enough to do with my booked solid speaking calendar, running a business, going to grad school, researching about non-profits, writing a book and a blog, preparing for my 7 state History of the Vibrator college tour, and the million other things I do, I’m giving myself the task of writing a play and doing all the promotion for getting this thing housed at a theater somewhere.
As for a topic- I’m not sure yet. I was thinking either doing a spin-off of one of my parties or workshops, having a play called “A Day in the Life of a Sexologist” as a monologue based on posts from this blog, or something from scratch that people need to know about, like clits. This would coincide nicely with another project I’m working on, which is creating a “Love a Clit Day” to raise awareness about the joy of clitorises and the horrors of female genital mutilation. Thoughts? I really love and need feedback so if you’re not on my facebook page already, please join and comment!
Oh, I just remembered a few other projects I have going on… hiring more staff which is always a long and laborious task, starting an erotic art gallery at Feminique, preparing for Feminique’s 3rd birthday bash, and an event for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is April. Ahhh… sometimes I get angry with myself for all this craziness, but then again I think there is something to be said about my passion. As you can see… this is why I’m hiring.
